We drove by the El Rancho Robles (The Oak Ranch), off one of the main roads in Oracle, Arizona. I wondered about it, took pictures and did a little research on it.
The ranch was built by Charles and Helen Galey Gilliland around 1923. The yester-years brochure from the library in Arizona shows that guests would have, “a horse suitable to his own requirements“, and, “Hunters may have their choice of bear, coyote, mountain lion, deer, wild hog, quail, ducks rabbits and other small game.
If you happen to be in the Tempe, Arizona area, near the Arizona State University, you may view the Charles L. Gilliland Photograph Collection at the Arizona Historical Foundation. Their collection is not available to view online.
